#it's been a weird day

Maintenance in fixing one problem has created another, involving a leak in a place where only a small container can fit to catch it. I can't get it to stop. I can't stay up all night emptying this small bowl so it doesn't overflow or hang around the house tomorrow tending to the leak until they decide to come by. I am frustrated and afraid and tired and I have to be up at seven tomorrow and I don't know what to do and if you happen to think of it, please pray for me.

I think "undeath" isn't necessarily the same as the smell of corpses. It definitely could be, especially in the context where you get this dialogue (spoilers: it's a lot of ghouls in various states of rot). But the smell of "undeath" could definitely be one of those more fantastical things. I read a book once with vampires, which described the smell of stepping into a place where many live together as having a smell similar to a lot of reptiles in one place, like a den of snakes. Sort of a musky, damp smell. Which would make sense if you're surrounded by cold blooded nocturnal predators. And it also works with another dialogue Astarion has with Shadowheart later, about bracing your nose in a vampire den, as it can smell a bit "organic". Which could either indicate the smell of gently decaying corpses and old blood, or something a bit more mystical that only people residing within the setting would know about.

I like how he basically confirms that he does smell like a corpse but it's okay because it's not that strong and also he hides it with perfume.
